life as a soldier
well, i'm glad, i've survived the first 2 weeks of my training at Tekong. But seriously, I believe they're just feeding us with appetizers, there's more to come. Physical training is quite tough, consider the fact that I worked till the day before my enlistment, no warm up, with zero preparation. So imagine running around the stadium for a freaking 20 mins non-stop (which adds up to about 8 to 10 rounds). But eventually, stamina gets better and I didn't tired out that easily. There's also strength training and speed training, but i'm going into detail.
And within just a short 2 weeks, there's already discontentment and unhappiness among various sections. I was appointed as the Parade State IC, and in Army, you should know its all about team work and not trying to claim credits. When people fail to communicate and update me with the Platoon's strength and status, i'm always the one in deep shit. Deep deep shit!
Oh, there's this particular day on the 14th, I was so down and I feel like I've been cursed. Firstly, before the route march for 3km, I accidently cut my finger with jack knife. Next, I fell from the stairs when helping my bunk mates to carry the freaking heavy mattress - I broke my specs. That night before I went to bed, my leg hit on the side of the bed - I see red on my nails again. I was so down that day, I just felt like nothing was going smoothly, but for the next few days, it ended up well. Like I've said, I've survived.
The most torturing part is the 3km route march with full pack that weigh as if I'm carrying tonnes and tonnes of stones. It was so heavy, my collar bone hurt so badly, that I just feel like screaming to vent my anger. It sucks real bad! But hey, that's for a start, I still have 24km to complete at the end of my BMT. Wish me luck.
Seriously, I had NEVER regretted joining NPCC back in my sec sch days. Because I find that all the foot drills are coming in handy, thus making my life much easier. Hooray.
As for sleep, my body is getting use to the routine of sleeping at 1030 and waking up at 5 in the morning. Now, I'm always the first to get up, after a lesson to be learnt when our whole section overslept one morning. We ended up falling in without washing up. That feeling was so horrible and it really haunts me. Thus, I'm putting in extra effort to make sure I get a proper wash up before the day starts!
Now that I've booked out, i'm going to spend time with my family and friends. each taking turns over the next few weekends ok. But please don't ask me out on sun, coz I hate sunday! hahaha! its BOOK IN day. shall update again, time for ice-cream...
